For port submissions there is no maintainer specific protocol: you submit it, wait for feedback and developers to bring it into the tree.
Reminder mails surely can help since the list is active and developers only have so much time to take care of the things they are interested in, but pinging every three days or so rather annoys me and tends to drift focus *away* from the port. V could be merged into DISTNAME directly but that's up to you. OK kn
