Agreed. That's why I kept it as .tar.xz :)
All tests pass on amd64. A big endian test would be appreciated.
Tested for real on amd64 (i use a lot of them).
It works fine on macppc and tests pass.
Fun note: if it's tested in a chroot created by proot(1),
tests/misc/help-version.sh fails since it misses /var/run/utmp.
