Dendrite is an alternative homeserver to synapse and is nearing being feature complete with it! This is, however, still considered beta by upstream. Here is information on its release: https://matrix.org/blog/2020/10/08/dendrite-is-entering-beta I am currently running it with a postgresql background - seems to be working pretty well!
