The Boudin Barndance - 1/21/99 Dan Ferguson WRIU-FM, 90.3 Kingston, RI Thursdays 6-9 pm Blame it on the wintertime blues, but we took the barn to the beach this evening onthe Boudin Barndance with a healthy dose of surf to cheer things up. In the spotlight was a great new reissue from Bacchus Archives of an early '60s recording from a band that dubbed themselves The Surf Teens. "Surf Mania" is the name of the album and features some real good liner notes from Deke Dickerson (evidently, it was the first surf record he ever owned). Other thanthe beachy motif, it was standard issue Barndance tonight. New stuff gettin' first-time Barndance spins included albums from The Flatirons, Hadacol, David Olney, J.D. Crowe & the New South, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, a reissue of Charlie Poole stuff, a compilation of South of the Border garage called "Exitos a Go Go," and the aformentioned Surf Teens. Butt-Shaker of the Week? After much deliberation, we give the nod to "Wiggly Little Mama" from The Krazy Kats. Onto the goods....
