This is a very good point.

It is for a similar reason that Buddy Miller does not want the early
Julie Miller CDs out in the market place.  As he put it, they are very
different from what she is doing now and they are not what people would
expect.

I respect his wishes.  But I still wanted them anyway and I knew what I
was buying in to.  But I can see the artist thinking in terms of casual
fans feeling ripped off rather than the rabid or hard core fan simply
wanting everything the artist had ever touched regardless of quality.

This is even more important in DC's case since we are dealing with
WalMart shopping where the retailer may be out of the hit CD and there
is no clerk present to alert the shopper that they are perhaps buying
the wrong disc for their granddaughter.
