I'm with Kip on this one. I thought Colossal Head was a weak album for Los
Lobos, because the tight, rootsy, melodic songwriting of their earlier
albums (including Kiko, which is my favorite) suffered at the expense of
Grateful Dead-influenced jamming, guitar solo wank-o-ramas and obtuse
lyrics. I also agree with Don that Cesar Rosas' Soul Disguise is better
than a lot of mediocre stuff out there, but still not nearly as good as Kiko
or How Will the Wolf Survive. I guess the point that I'm trying to get at
is that I'm afraid that my favorite rock & roll band might finally be
running out of steam creatively. I've heard that David Hidalgo has a solo
album coming out later this year (although I don't know when). Does anyone
know if/when Los Lobos will be releasing their next album as a band?
