I buy too many CDs and really don't have the time to give each a fair listen. Rarely does a CD stop me in my tracks and demand all my attention. As premature as it is, this is my first candidate for top 10 of "99 Perhaps the first of this year is Tom Russell's "The Man From God Knows Where" descibed on the cover as "an immigrant song cycle", this is a concept album at it's best. This is real americana. It's the story of Tom Russell's family history merged with American history and helped by Irene DeMent and Dave Van Ronk (amongst others)...and it's awesome. I haven't seen any mention of this CD (although i've had to lean heavily on the delete key lately and might have missed it). Has anyone else heard it and have an opinion? MarkM N.P.
