Howdy, No live music this week. Bummer. But, hey, the show was still fun to listen to and fun for me to put together. The featured artist of this week's show was Pittsburgh, PA's own Deliberate Strangers and their newest disc, Mood Music for Snake Handlers. "Box of Pine" from the disc has become something of a mini-hit since I debuted it on the Fringe a few weeks ago, plus the rest of the disc has some great music worthy of featuring in my eclectic little musical sandbox. And, heck, I just think the album's got a great name. This week's episode was also something of a "kitchen sink" show with me getting a chance to debut some tracks from newly-arrived discs and stuff likely unfamiliar to the listeners. Making their airplay debut on the Fringe this week were: Afghan Whigs, Bare Jr., The Cadillac Cowgirl with Her Back Door Men, The Countrypolitans, Drive-By Truckers, Hogwaller Ramblers, and The Starkweathers. If you eat your vegetables, do your homework, and clean behind your ears, you might grow up to be on the Fringe someday, too. Here's a sample of what it might be like: (of course, as always, contact information, featured artist information, and Fringe trivia, follows the play list) Fringe -- Episode #21 -- 10 PM to Midnight WDVX- FM -- Clinton/Knoxville, TN -- February 6, 1999 You Shook Me All Night Long -- Hogwaller Ramblers -- Hogwaller Ramblers -- Mea Culpa Patty McBride -- Bare Jr. -- Boo-Tay -- Immortal (2/8@Disc Exchange and Tennessee Theater) Wasted Words -- The Allman Brothers Band -- Legendary Hits -- Rebound Box of Pine -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday Huggin' and Kissin' -- The Cadillac Cowgirl with Her Back Door Men -- High on the Hog -- Sur Harlan Man -- Steve Earle and the Del McCoury Band -- The Mountain -- E-Squared It Still Hurts -- Elena Skye & the Demolition String Band -- One Dog Town -- North Hollow Marcella -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday Flesh and Blood -- The Bystanders -- The Bystanders Ways to Be Wicked -- Lone Justice -- This World Is Not My Home -- Geffen Big Muscle -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday Tears'll Be Pouring -- The Countrypolitans -- Tired of Drowning -- Ultrapolitan Mind to Change -- Hillbilly Idol -- Town and Country -- HBI What Jail Is Like -- Afghan Whigs -- Gentlemen -- Elektra Git You a Job -- Kimmie Rhodes -- West Texas Heaven -- Justice Yes I Guess They Oughta Name a Drink After You -- John Prine -- Diamond in the Rough -- Atlantic Philistine -- Buck Diaz -- Buck Diaz Trippin' Trucker -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday 18 Wheels of Love -- Drive-By Truckers -- Gangstabilly -- Soul Dump Little White Trash Boy -- The Starkweathers -- Hell Bent: Insurgent Country, Vol. 2 -- Bloodshot Me 'N' Opie -- BR5-49 -- Live from Roberts -- Arista Out Foul Demon Spirits -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday Find Some Love -- Duke Daniels -- Help Is On the Way -- E Pluribus Girls Talk -- Dave Edmunds -- Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80s, Vol. 1 -- Rhino Pauline -- Kevin Gordon -- Cadillac Jack's #1 Son -- Shanachie Anthracite -- The Deliberate Strangers -- Mood Music for Snake Handlers -- Payday Gas and Food -- One Fell Swoop -- Look Out -- Magoo Short Memories -- Graham Parker -- Gadfly Pie -- Gadfly Me or the Misery -- Michael White -- Familiar Ground -- Reprise East of Eden -- Lone Justice -- This World Is Not My Home -- Geffen And, sadly, midnight comes too soon again and another trip to Fringe must end. Next week's featured artist is a blast from the alt.country past-- Lone Justice. Relive the 80s in all their glory on the next episode. How do I choose each week's featured artist? It's a highly scientific process involving a look at new releases that have arrived in my mailbox (hint, hint), local touring calendars, a touch of "eeny-meeny-miney-moe," and a top secret computer under the mountains of Hancock County. Okay, actually, it's just my personal choice based on what I've been enjoying lately. You can influence my decision by sending your disc to me at: Shane Rhyne 208 W. Glenwood Avenue, #2 Knoxville, TN 37917 Join the ranks of past featured artists such as Kimmie Rhodes, Greta Lee, the Deliberate Strangers, Fred Eaglesmith, Radney Foster, and more, and step out onto the Fringe. There's almost nothing to be frightened of. In the meantime, remember... The Fringe...now lemony-fresh with *real* lemons...
