It *is* good news, isn't it? And presumably that'll give her the
super-mega-wattage exposure of the Oscar telecast to perform the song.

Gives me a chance to backtrack a little on something rather ill-considered I said
the other day when trying to rebut somebody else, namely, that I found Allison
Moorer "boring". I gave ALABAMA SONG a couple more spins this last weekend, and
while I know why it's left me rather cold before,  (there is a preponderance of
slow tempos and dreamy mid-range tunes that don't show her fine voice to best
effect, IMO, and there'd be a better mix of tempos from song to song if I'd laid
the record's tracks out) she is a fine singer when given the chance to stretch out
enough to show her range. She's very effective dueting with Lonesome Bob on his
record, and I'll grab any chance I get to see her live.

Nobody thought enough about it to get on me about my rash statement of taste
though, and the record didn't do all that well in the P2 best of '98 poll, did it?
Not that that's justification...
