It was indeed terrific. Steve looked and sounded great, Del and Band
likewise.
Fave moments:
Steve playing my fave songs: "Ellis Unit One", "I Ain't Ever Satisfied",
"Goodbye".
The choreography needed for six guys and one microphone.
Steve explaining the battle of Gettysburg, saying that if not for one
unit (the 20th Maine?), "Ya'll would be talking like us."
Steve on wearing a suit: "I keep expecting someone to say 'Will the
defendant rise.' "
Steve commenting on why they weren't playing a larger venue (I
paraphrase): Well, a lot of people don't even know we have a new record
out, because that radio station that usually plays our records ain't
playing this one... (booing by audience) We called WXRT and asked them
why, and they said it was the banjos... (more booing) Hey, I'll always
be grateful to WXRT, they were the first rock radio station to play my
records, but you can call them up now and tell them to kiss my ass.
Least fave moments:
A lot of people talked through the Del McCoury Band part of the show
(but a lot of people were really into them).
A group of six or seven morons right below us, who talked through most
of the show.
The person who yelled "Steve, we love you anyway" while he was
explaining his opposition to the death penalty.
Deep thought:
When they cast "The Del McCoury Story", they have to go with Steve
Martin in the leading role. Same hair, same smile...
