True enough, though Garland started out as pretty much a hillbilly picker,
influenced by Maybelle Carter and Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. By chance,
I picked up Bear Family's 1992 collection, Hank Garland And His Sugar
Footers just yesterday at Darren Blaze's Shake It Records store over in
Northside; it's material from the late 40s and early 50s, and there's some
very nifty stuff on it. Anyhow, Garland's certainly another one who brought
jazz sensibilities into the Nashville Sound recordings.
