For those wishing to know: Dr. Matthew Allen (1783-1845) was a pioneer in mental health, advocating a much more humain treatment that what had gone before. His is perhaps most famous for treating the poet John Clare. This book is really a collection of thoughts and writings, and also his defence in a court case.
