For those wishing to know: Rev. Stoughton was a well-known minister in this 1870 sermon he encourages his congregation to read good books (secular and religious) and gives the Religious Tract Society a major plug. The pamphlet carries quite a bit of advertising from the Society and so it was possibly a joint-venture. Project Gutenberg have a complete RTS catalog from the 1840's, but by this stage they had branched out somewhat.
