FYI I wrote the same thing ages ago, and eventually backed it out.

It did make it simpler to correlate the error message with the original message, even for myself, and I like to think I'm good at dealing with mail.

But unfortunately it also made it simpler to accidentally delete the original message and the real replies to it. I did it myself — my mail reader would almost always present several bounces that related to the same message as one thread, and the convenient command to delete a thread deleted the bounces. BUT if the bounces happened to be generated by one of the rare servers that set I-R-T, then the same command deleted the original message, too. Oops.
