That was the clue I needed.  I thought I had commented out gmail from the 
transport file.  Well I did, but then neglected to run postmap against it.  As 
soon as I ran postmap transport and restarted postfix, I started to see email 
sent to gmail from that domain get though.  It did go to spam, but given the 
current state of gmail I am not surprised that happens to a previously unseen 
(by gmail) IP address.

I'll work on reputation next.
