This means that GLIBC (or whatever your equivalent is) has problems not POSTFIX. The suspected sequence of events is as follows: 1 - Client connects 2 - Postfix asks GLIBC to look up the hostname and IP address, GLIBC asks nsswitch, nsswitch talks whatever local infrastucture.
