Hi All,
Pflogsumm version 1.2.2alpha02 has been released.
This is an Alpha release that may eventually become Beta 1.2.2 once
it's been wrung-out for a few days on the servers I admin—provided I
get no bug reports or enhancement requests.
From the ChangeLog:
rel-1.2.2alpha02 20260815
Added --suppress <report(s)> option, allowing one to suppress
selected report sections. Current report section options are:
host/domain - suppress all host/domain summaries
per-hour - suppress all per-hour/-day statistics
rdns-warnings - suppress all "does not resolve to address"
rDNS warnings
size-detail - suppress per-user message size detail
"--suppress help" lists the available report suppression
options
An explanation for the impetus behind the new --suppress option may
be in order.
For years I've been reading my own pflogsumm reports and found:
• I *never* paid attention to the per-hour/-day statistics or
per-user message size information.
• More than once I've missed truly interesting warnings amidst
reams of "does not resolve to address" warnings about which I
utterly did not care. (I 4xx clients with failed rDNS.)
I thought about what other report sections in which one might
reasonably be disinterested and added the host/domain summary
sections to that list. (I scan them. Others may not care.)
If anybody has any comments or suggestions on this new option, the
choices I made, or additional choices I could add, I'd be happy to
see them.
