No offense taken, you just appeared to be focused on the wrong part
of the problem (the fact that it turns on at unpredicable times).

I hope that the search for the culprit (saslauthd, mysqld or perhaps
the NSCD daemon, that's one I forgot to mention) will get the problem
resolved.
