Excellent!  Issue solved with the following line in my main.cf

inet_protocols = ipv4

Someone has turned on IPv6 support, but your host has no IPv6
connectivity.

Postfix as distributed from Postfix.org does not turn on IPv6 support
unless the sysadmin says so.
