For the record, there is now an upstream Exim bugfix:

Though not a Postfix bug, thanks for the report, as Exim users upgrade,
the issue should become less frequent.

Given the recent cluster of Exim CVEs, we can perhaps expect upgrades
to be atypically prompt...
