I wrote 20+ years ago.

Single quoting should be fine, but he's missing the opening single-quote, so there's just one on the end, which as you can probably imagine, really messes things up.

Actually he's starting the quote at the beginning of one line and ending it way below. It would probably work fine if he got rid of the intervening backslashes.
