According to

are "two connection caching strategies".

Are smtp_connection_cache_on_demand and
smtp_connection_cache_destinations mutually exclusive?

smtp_connection_cache_on_demand enables automatic caching when needed for any destinations

smtp_connection_cache_on_demand always enables caching for configured destinations

I guess I'm trying to understand how these 2 settings play with each other.

they are completely independent.
