From a cartographic perspective, there is a long tradition of using a kind of double-ended fish-hook, or maybe I should say something like an integration symbol, to do this sort of thing.

As to functions, I've not seen anything like this. If I were trying to do this, I would I suppose write a stored procedure that went through the multipart polygons, unwound each into its component polygons, find a point on each component polygon, build that list of points into the line string.
