I use PostGIS as an unofficial database for managing spatial data for the international organization I work for in the field of nature protection. The official management of the data is delegated to a contractor who unfortunately uses proprietary software. (I really don't get it) I use it along with several other open source tools. 2) What you find useful about it over anything else? It implements all the functionality I expect from a spatial GIS. It's free (in all meanings of the word). The user community is extraordinarily helpful. You can find solutions to your problems in a matter of hours through the user list. I've had PostGIS developers help me first hand on some issues. > > 3) Why you think there should be any book written focused on its use and of > course if such a thing were to exist, would you buy it? > Definitely. > Of course I'll also need some official download stats etc. which hopefully > the Refractions group can help out with.
