Thanks to three (3) brave sponsors stepping up steadly we now have the capability to store rasters in a postgis enabled database.
The rasters can be both in the database or just external and only referenced. Once imported/registered they can be selected using well known operators already in use for GEOMETRY types. The only downside is that you can't do much with them yet :) There's still a lot to be sponsored, but you don't necessarely need everything to make use of it. Simple register/retrive (path-based) would only take a single funding slot to complete.
