I do have the libgcc installed /lib/libgcc._s.so.1. This is kicking me in the butt...

Sounds like you're missing the libgcc RPM. On my RHEL 4 box, it's libgcc-3.4.5-2. If you have yum installed, you can install via the command: yum install libgcc.
