Pound is not and will not be the solution you are after. It lags behind in http features also (no web socket) and nginx may be a better solution for someone for http proxying. I still use Pound but I suffer for the missing features syndrome. haproxy is the ultimate proxy you are after. It has features for http proxy, ssl and tcp proxy separately. It can do what you want. I use haproxy in addition to Pound, because haproxy has not all the http features Pound has. I use it for tcp proxy solution and I am happy with that.
