In my case, 'leftcaptionanywhere' alone had not behaved
reliably during the test. (Worked well if combined with
mod keys, on the other hand)

Exactly. When I tested using the mousetrap win.show("under")
seemed to apply to the modal window if I clicked on the modal
one, and to the main window if I clicked on the main one.
On the contrary, window.show("under") always applied to
the main window no matter what I clicked on.
