hi ppl,
[on image plugin] i'm not sure if this'd be useful or not but I guess an image plugin wouldn't hurt. basically i could use it to show images on some given positions, maybe with magic-pink for transparency. pinned on desktop or topmost, of course _without_ a border. it could also resize, resample, rotate, etc. given images, but not necessarily; irfanview can do these, too. as workaround i could use dynamically created PP-bars with the images as background (see my past post about PP-splash-screen :P), but it'd be "not right". well, why you may ask? i have some PHP-scripts under linux which get daily dilbert, calvin&hobbes, etc. and show only the images on desktop. i can parse these pages with net & regexp plugins and show the image pinned on desktop, without setting it as wallpaper or using progs like bginfo. i'm sure there'd be not-so-dumb uses for this plugin. [on gecko plugin] actually even better would be (truly cream of the crop) a gecko (rendering engine of mozilla fame) plugin, which shows any given file in a given position and size, of course again without a border or widgets, with optional scrollbars & transparency. one could load into such a window htmls, xmls, and here they come, js/dom/soap-thingies. then come the plugins like flash. uses are countless. well, sort of an "open source active desktop" with the help of PP. then it'd be no need for an image plugin, since moz can do jpg, png, etc. it wouldn't be integrated into OS (thus secure) but a *capable* browser would be at PP's disposal. for the plugin-writers good starting points are: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/embedding/ http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/mozilla.htm before purists cry out bloat and go hunt for my head: "noone has to use it if s/he doesn't need it, *i* would do!" actually with PHP and/or net/regexp plugins I can do many net-stuff, but i can't show the results the way i want; PP-bars are very limited for images and large texts, or complex layouts. (no, i don't like notes for large texts) i can give you more ideas on this if you like. over and out c ps: Russel, you were writing a USB plugin long ago. any news? -- Reclaim Your Inbox! www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird Attention: PowerPro's Web site has moved: http://www.ppro.org Yahoo!
