Hi Bruce I found an easy workaround for bars at the top or left edge of the screen - just set the bar background to have transparency of 255.
That works for bars at the top or left edge because the transparent background is at the right or bottom of the bar. Therefore one can place the bar completely on screen and the buttons will be at the edge. The background is still there (in theory) but invisible so it doesn't matter. However that does not work for bumper bars placed at the bottom or right edge. After using pproconf the bar moves fully into the screen, including the transparent background.
