Alan, I'm only replying because you told us to let you know when we felt that you were getting unreasonably worked up about something.
I understand your concern about "boys clubs" but this is the Internet: anyone could pose as a male or a female... or as a gender mystery. How the hell would I know, for instance, what mockey has between his legs? It's not a name I recognize. Let's look at this business about Karen getting "turned down" rationally for a minute: Mockey, who you assume to be male, was turned down too! I don't see any evidence for any of this to be about gender. Call that denial if you will but I feel there are more important issues to take on for a feminist that the "power structure" of some obscure mailing list. If you feel so strongly about this, why don't you step up to the place instead of venting? ppro.org is up for grabs as per mockey's mail. I'm sure you'd do a good job of managing it. If you don't want to get involved, well then this matter is between Bruce and whoever is willing to provide a server or a domain. It's not my concern nor is it yours. I'm sure they'll manage without our input somehow and that we will soon have a working website. P.S.: Reading between the lines of messages hastily written by strangers for whom English is a second language and whose face you can't see is a risky proposition.
