Pop-up ads can easily be dealt with by use of a program called
Proxomitron.

This is a site where the program and filter sets may be dowloaded:
http://www.kye-u.com/proxo/forums/index.php?s=ffc5567b8109e9aa057dc7d8e880271d&act=idx

click on paFileDB
then Proxomitron
then Proxomitron Naoko-4.5 June (Installer)

There are two pre-built filter sets,
one is located at
http://www.geocities.com/sidki3003/prox-down.html
then click on Config version 2004-12-28

The above filter set is my preferred set but it requires more work to
get it installed and working.

The second can be found at
http://www.users.on.net/~grypen/Downloads/?M=D
then click on ProxoFilterSet20050212.exe

This filter set has an installer and after running the installer for
Proxomitron will automatically install the filters and supporting
files in the appropriate directories.

Proxomitron can do much more than block ads.
