Yes, it is, and yes, unchecking fixes. However, I am stubborn (and apparently masochistic too) and don't really want to uncheck "Show desktop whenever..." on a permenant basis, so I added vdesk.next() vdesk.previous() to my more commands on the buttons and that seems to have fixed it, it just takes longer to switch desks now.
