It seems strange that a simple hotkey works but a macro doesn't.
That suggests it is not a problem with hotkeys being taken over
by another app, maybe an error in setting up the macro.

I suggest that rsiebler try these trouble-shooting tests
and tell us the results:

[1] set the hotkey for =
with no modifiers such as Shift for the hotkey
with command: keys
parameter: abc
The box called "Blank for all windows..." should be empty.

Test by pressing the = key while notepad is focussed.

I gather from David's message that this should work.
If that does not work, then it's a problem with hotkeys
not with macros.

[2] if [1] works, make a new command list called: macros2
whose first item has the name: test
and only one Left command: keys
parameter: abc

Also change the = hotkey's command to: macro
with parameter: macros2
Click Apply in pproconf, then type: =test
while notepad is focussed.

If that does not work but [1] did work, then it's a problem
with macros but not with hotkeys.

[3] if [2] works, change the command for the item with
name "test" in the macros2 command list from keys abc
to the command you were using for your macro previously.
Click Apply in pproconf, then type: =test
while notepad is focussed.

If it does not go wrong until step [3] then it is a fault in the
command for the "test" item in your macros command list.
Please post the complete command(s) for the item which the
macro is intended to run.
