This was done in the win 9x family by editing autoexec.bat and putting it
into the path= statement.

Eg.
Path=C:\;c:\windows;c:\Program Files\Powerpro;

And it puts all programs in those folders into the "search these paths to
execute a relatively-named .exe file"

Who says it wasn't worth while starting my computer history with win 3.1 ;)
