Yup.  You can use all the conversion routines without connecting,
so threaded/not-threaded not relevant.  BUT you use connect service
before you get to mime decoding, therefore you could be locking up
before you get to latter.

The mime decoding code is complicated and borrowed: quite possible
it screws up and goes into some kind of infinite loop on some input.

If you can find an example of a line of text that locks it, that would
be really helpful.
