I probably wasn't too clear there, sorry! 

It's not actually the date command that's the problem...  I picked 
Semi+d, which writes the date for me, as an example but the problem 
actually occurs with all Semicolon+<char> hotkeys.

e.g.  I've set semicolon-q to write PowerPro, but in a PowerPro note it 
writes:

    ;PowerPr
