This sounds like one of the firefox windows that open when websites do
redirects for downloading files. Certain websites use that instead of
linking directly to a file with a hyperlink.

If you have come kind of "remember last session" plugin, you might try
disabling that and see if it fixes the problem. I have ff1.5 and don't have
that window on startup.
