Works fine when I try what I think you are doing.

Try using the default configuration and adding a menu startmenu
button.  Does it work?  If not, try shutting down other programs on
your system to see if they are affecting it.

If default configuration does work, try switching it to taskbar no
start position.

If it still works, then there is a conflict with something in your
normal configuration.  Usually when menus disappear, it is because
some other window is getting the focus.  Does you have a bump or
other how key to activate a bar?  Check the hot keys and bar
configurations.  Also ensure you uncheck GUI Control tab, "left
click mouse when stopped..."
