There's also the ODBC plugin, if you want to access access via an sql
interface.

In principle, not necessary. If you mean by "meanwhile",
"temporarily", Bruce has done a lot of work to cause intermediate,
temporary handles to get destroyed automatically.
I'll test your old script to make sure, (by monitoring handles: they
autoincrement, but temps should come and go invisibly, so number
embedded in handle name should not show effect of creating temps.)
But the idea is that temporaries should manage themselves.
I'll update docs to make it clear this is supposed to happen.
