I agree the above is the "right" way to do it.  

One possible issue with your code is with local variables, which will 
be different for the stuff after endif depending on whether the point 
was reached from the original script or form the callback.

Nonetheless, if you prefer to keep what you have, I added an 
undocumented
exec noifdocheck

to latest version of 4.5.04 which will stop the ifdo check for this 
script only as soon as it is executed.
