I think that's the idea of release candidates: it's a candidate for
releasing as a final version. If there are no bug reports after it's
been in use for a couple of weeks, the same thing is uploaded to the
main (non-beta) download folder as an official version.
So if the same file is renamed from RC, it was a successful RC.

I hope it will turn out to be worth the effort for you.
I do remember several reliable members saying it made a noticeable
difference for them and nobody contradicted that in those threads.
