Hi Alan Campbell,

That you, Alan C of all people, should be made to feel uncomfortable
about how many KB you have contributed to our files is just ridiculous.
That 2.75 MB is a measure of your generosity to us all, especially as it
is all of such high quality.
There is plenty of room for whatever you wish to upload.

There is no crisis about free space in the our Files store.
No state of emergency, no need for tough measures by a strong leader.

Of course we run low on free space every now and then,
which can easily be fixed by some sensible housekeeping
by a moderate moderator, without disturbance or orders
or a radical change of policy.

Please don't worry about those crazy "guidelines" posted by Cüneyt
which he had the cheek to post as: ! ! ! READ ME FIRST ! ! !
as if they are official policy.

They are completely inappropriate both in the detailed content
and also in the general vibe of them, which is terribly off-putting.

I don't know why he imagines he has the right to impose his own ideas
and take charge of OUR files store in such a dictatorial manner.

Unfortunately he has lost the plot completely,
forgetting that the purpose of our files section is to contain files,
not to maximise the free space there;
and forgetting that our files collection doesn't belong to him,
it belongs to all the people who created it.

I do hope he will get better soon.

Meanwhile, if you are wondering whether policy has changed,
I have as much right as any other maniac to make official declarations
without consulting anybody so here's mine:

When uploading archives, the zip format is recommended
but you may use the rar format if you prefer.

Also, you can safely ignore crazy edicts like:

> Try to avoid binary formats DOC, WRI etc. TXT is good! Remember KISS!

I appreciate the extra trouble you go to, formatting your documentation
as .RTF files, so please keep it up if you are willing to.

> Do not pack big files into your archives which may be interesting
> only for few people. Anything above 50K should be a big no-no.

Imposing a 50KB limit is a big no-no.

> Try to avoid redundant information. The same info as TXT as HLP
> as CHM and whatnot is unnecessary.

Maybe that one was aimed at you, Alan C, as I think you are
the only plugin author who provides both .rtf and .chm.
That makes sense to me: personally I prefer .rtf for printing
a hard copy and .chm for reading on screen. That's a wonderful
service you do, especially as some of your new plugins are quite
complicated for "the rest of us" and the docs are essential.

Actually, Bruce provides both HLP and CHM.
Obviously in need of moral guidance, he should be told:
"Do not waste resources! Save the nature!".

Please don't do that. Such extreme measures are unnecessary. It would
make the .dll more opaque to inquisitive people who like to change
built in icons, edit text strings for localisation - and I have a
script Sean wrote (which would probably not work with upx files)
to extract all the service names automatically which makes it easier
to create the syntax highlighting files.
Anyway it is pointless to UPX a dll which will be distributed in a zip.
It's not worth the inconvenience to save just a few more bytes.

Good night :)

Alan M
