binary.get_bytes is the "real" service.  The rest (all in italics in
docs table) are aliases: they only work via a handle, as in

  bHan.get_value

Yup, sorry, that's what I get for rushing.  I left a line of degug
code in the release version.  0.54a fixes; version umber throughout
remains 0.54
