It is may be not so hard as you think. I am not a windows-developer,
but - like Bruce recommended, i was able to find out some interesting
win.sendmessage-commands, which work. As you didn't wrote, what you
want to do, here just a few examples:

You can try the first or the last example - they have an immediate
visible effect. If they work for you, it might also be possible to do
the same for the function you wanted to use.
