YOu are right, the only way to do this is with skins. Or with spaces around the text which is inflexible and not great for proportional fonts. You are also right that I don't want to get into this type of feature change -- anything that involves changing the bar drawing code or changes the configuration dialogs for bars/buttons, is going to be a hassle. And this is both....
