Thanks for everyone's feedback re NormalizeString/normailz.dll. Good to know about, but doesn't address the general issue of multi-word unicode codepoints (only some of them, e.g. combining character sequences, but not the vast number of surrogate pairs that NormalizeString wouldn't touch.
