I run powertop and found no C3 state when I am on AC
but it appeared once I unplugged.

What is even more interesting is that when on AC,
powertop no longer show the average power consumption.

I have googled around a bit and this seems to be the
norm for many notebook and it was given to be a
recommendation by Intel(at least that is what some HP
support said) of lowest is C2 when on AC.

This seems to translate to "we don't care about the
few watts of power when it is on AC" or may be there
is some disadvantage of C3 state ?

I do notice one difference between C2 and C3 on my
notebook(too bad I cannot see the average power
consumption on AC in powertop), the fan stops
completely in C3, not so on C2.

Are there any way to override this BIOS setting things
by forcing to C3 state ? It is a Core Duo T2350.

thanks and regards,
gary
