Hi, I've built and run powertop 1.7 and configured my system (Compaq Armada M700) with most of the hints. However, although I have built the ondemand cpu speed governor and can load it with modprobe, I cannot switch to that govenor. I get:
$ echo -n ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument The speedstep-smi scaling governor module is also loaded: $ lsmod Module Size Used by cpufreq_ondemand 6228 0 speedstep_smi 4604 0 speedstep_lib 3712 1 speedstep_smi xt_state 1984 1 ip_conntrack 40656 1 xt_state iptable_filter 2340 1 ip_tables 10488 1 iptable_filter x_tables 11716 2 xt_state,ip_tables rt61 210824 1 firmware_class 7520 1 rt61 yenta_socket 24092 1 uhci_hcd 22932 0 rsrc_nonstatic 11148 1 yenta_socket pcmcia_core 35256 2 yenta_socket,rsrc_nonstatic usbcore 122076 2 uhci_hcd MY system looks like this: $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX Host bridge (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX AGP bridge (rev 03) 00:04.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03) 00:04.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03) 00:07.0 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ISA (rev 02) 00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01) 00:07.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB (rev 01) 00:07.3 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ACPI (rev 03) 00:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E (rev 10) 00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 09) 00:09.1 Serial controller: Agere Systems LT WinModem 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x (rev 64) 06:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI Any advice would be much appreciated.
