I have a MythTV system running Fedora 7 and MythTV 0.20.1 RPMs from Atrpms. When fully idle, the whole system generates ~600 wakeups/s. MythTV generates ~300 of them on it's own, apparently in some sort of short sleep / wakeup loop. Here's what powertop reports when the system is idle:
Top causes for wakeups: 44.3% (172.4) mythwelcome : schedule_timeout (process_timeout) 26.2% (102.0) mythbackend : schedule_timeout (process_timeout) 19.4% ( 75.4) <interrupt> : ivtv0, nvidia 5.1% ( 20.0) mythbackend : futex_wait (hrtimer_wakeup) 1.0% ( 3.7) wmaker : schedule_timeout (process_timeout) 0.8% ( 3.0) X : do_setitimer (it_real_fn) Killing mythwelcome and mythbackend didn't save any power on this system (it's a Sempron 3000+ system, PowerTOP doesn't report any C-states) so I haven't dug into the MythTV source to look for the cause, but I suspect others may be interested. PowerTop did give me hints to turn off hald polling of the DVD drive and to turn on ac97 power saving, which did cut off about 1w of power consumption at the wall. -Dave _______________________________________________ Power mailing list [email protected] http://www.bughost.org/mailman/listinfo/power
